Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois admitted he does not expect a warm welcome at Stamford Bridge ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final clash against Chelsea.
The 29-year-old’s forcing his way to join Real Madrid in 2018 unsurprisingly did not sit well with many Chelsea fans.
His agent later revealed that the goalkeeper simply wanted to move closer to his children, who lived away from him in Madrid at the time, but Courtois remains an unpopular figure at Stamford Bridge.
The former Genk man, who recently commented on Chelsea’s 4-1 defeat to Brentford, is clearly aware of it ahead of Real Madrid’s visit this week.
“Now we are rivals. They want to win and so do I.
“So I’m not asking for any applause. I hope I don’t get booed, but you never know.
“I’m ready for anything, and we’ll see how it goes. I’m happy to go back there with fans as last year the stadium was empty.”
