Chelsea player beats Mo Salah to record of fastest in the Premier League this season.

Chelsea’s backline has the brainy Thiago Silva combined with the rapid pair of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen covering for him.

It’s a beautiful blend, although we hadn’t realised just how quick Rudiger is. He has the top speed recorded in the whole league this season, at 36.7km/h

 

We assume it was from one of his trademark mad dashes back, probably ending in a flying two footed slide tackle that finishes just far enough away from the attacker to save him from a red card.

It’s that recovery pace that allows him to defender as aggressively as he does, and it’s a huge part of the team’s effectiveness in this shape. That’s yet another reason why losing him on a free transfer this summer would be such a disaster, and replacing him would be such a challenge.
